What does “inner wellness” mean? It is the state of acceptance and satisfaction with ourselves. Inner Wellness is having the ability to be aware of and make choices toward a more successful existence, and taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle and finding a sense of well-being. To me, it really means living a healthy active lifestyle without really thinking about it too much, so that it comes naturally.
Why did you start this blog? Because I want to help other people find strength and happiness through living a healthy lifestyle. When I started Inner Wellness, I had just moved back to the states from Sweden and I was a bit bored. I was waiting for my husband to find a job so that we could move and start our state-side lives.
Where have you lived? I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved to Norman, Oklahoma to attend the University of Oklahoma in 2006. I lived in Borlänge, Sweden from August of 2007 until August of 2008, and I lived in Norrköping, Sweden from August of 2008 until early 2009. Hans and I moved back to the states in early 2009 and lived with my parents for 3 looonnnggg months until he found a job in Charlotte, North Carolina in April 2009.
Where have you traveled to? Outside of the United States, I have been to Mexico and Jamaica. In Europe, I have been to several places in Sweden such as Stockholm several times and way up North where the sun don’t shine in the winter and it is freeze your ass off cold. I have also been to Paris, France. Prague, Czech Republic. Salzburg & Wels, Austria. Helsinki, Finland. I lived in Würzburg, Germany for 1 month in May 2009 and I have been to Frankfurt, the Mosel Wine Valley, Bonn, Berlin and Dresden.
Where is your favorite place that you have been? Germany and Prague. I can’t choose between the two.
How did you and Hans meet? Hans was an exchange student at the University of Oklahoma when we met in September of 2006.
What is your favorite recipe? I have a lot of favorite recipes. However, I don’t have any go to recipes because I like to try a variety of different dishes. But one thing that I prepare several times a month for my husband and I is Swedish paj.
Are you a baker? Yes!! I enjoy baking so much more than cooking. I often bake goodies for Hans’ office. I prefer to bake bread, it is therapeutic for me. However, I do like my desserts too. My favorite dessert recipe is this chocolate cake.
What do you do? I am a student but I can’t enroll in a North Carolina university until fall of 2010 because of out of state tuition. I am studying Public Relations and Journalism.
Why health and fitness? I was a gymnast and a cheerleader growing up so I had a distorted body image while I was growing up. I struggled with this until I moved to Sweden and saw how they lived moderately in all aspects of life. I wanted to be ‘free’ like they were so naturally, my interest in healthy food and exercise sparked.
What is your favorite form of exercise? Yoga and taking walks but I like to run every once in awhile too.
What are your other interests besides food, wine and traveling? I am a fashion rookie. I prefer to stand out. I wear clothing that expresses myself and my creativity. I don’t wear anything too crazy, my style is classical with a rocker chic vibe thrown in the mix.
