Menswear

The gender line between fashion is getting thinner. You see men wearing more feminine clothing and women experimenting with menswear.

My outfit today wasn’t really planned. I didn’t know what to wear so I was looking through the closest and I found a white shirt from H&M that Hans left here and I thought it was cute. So, I tried to bring an outfit together with it. I think it works together well, I have enough feminine pieces to offset the oversized men’s shirt.

Shirt- H&M menswear. Shiny leggings- Lindex. Long black tank top- Gina Tricot.

Have you experimented with the “boyfriend” trend?

I didn’t forget

about my blog 🙂 There has been so much going on so I decided to take a few days off for Christmas and mellandagarna but I am back now with full force!

In Sweden, their version of “black Friday” is the day after Christmas. You know that I was all over that. My friend and I hit up the Kupolen as soon as the doors were open. I found a lot of cute clothes on sale.

Here are my finds.

The striped and sequin shirt were found at H&M.

As was the biker chic leather jacket.

I found this adorable headband at KappAhl for only 49 SEK ($7).

The jacket, 2 shirts and headband I purchased for about 500 SEK ($70).. pretty damn lucky eh? I was very happy with my day of shopping 🙂

Some outfits that I threw together over the holidays.

Graphic tee- Forever 21. Black skirt- Express. Pink belt- Express.

I am in love with this outfit!

Faux leather jacket- H&M. Striped shirt- H&M. Headband- KappAhl. Black skirt- Express. White scarf- Borrowed from a friend.

Did you have any luck with good sales the day after Christmas?

Make Up Tutorial

I thought I would step out of the ordinary blogging mode this morning, and write a post about the make up that I use (when I actually wear make up). While in high school, I would not be seen without anything less than perfectly made up eyeshadow and face. However, I go with less make up as I have gotten older and more comfortable in my own skin. Not to say that playing with make up isn’t fun, because it most definitely is.

I must be really comfortable in my own skin to be posting a before photo. Really, the thought should make me cringe… but it doesn’t. I feel truly at peace with myself during this point in my life. Now I will stop with the blabbering and get down to business.

For the face, I use no brand concealer & powder, NARS sheer glow foundation and NARS bronzer and blush.

I wasn’t a fan of foundation until recently. I hated the way that it felt on my face. That was until I started using the sheer glow foundation. It is light and evens out my skin tone without looking like I have a pound of make up on. NARS brand of make up is goddess sent. I also adore the bronzer/blush combination in orgasm and laguna.

Now for the fun part! Urban decay is to the eyes as NARS is to face. In other words, I am obsessed with their eyeshadow. I also have some mac eyeshadow that I like to play with too.

I use the brown mac eyeshadow for my eyebrows (they are practically nonexistent). Mac eye highlighter in Phloof. Urban Decay eyeshadow in S&M and Oil Slick. Urban Decay eyeliner and no brand mascara.

I use Phloof from the eyebrow to mid eye. S&M from the lashes to the mid eye and Oil Slick in the crease of the eye.

And to top it off, mac pink lipstick for some color and a sheer gloss.

My after photo.

Up close.

If I want to do more of a smokey eye then I blend in more of the Urban Decay Oil Slick. I was going to a Christmas party so I didn’t want too much.

Make up has always been one of my favorite things to play around with. I remember when I was little and would get into my mom’s make up bag and make a huge mess of myself.

Namaste

I am on a roll! I practiced yoga two days in a row after not practicing for about 6 weeks.

I followed a 30 minute int. power yoga class from yogadownload. My legs were shaking!! I am going to really try to focus on making yoga a priority again. It does so much for the mind, body & soul. If you are not a yoga practitioner, I urge you to give a try.

******

I broke down and bought a pair of baggy jeans from Gap!

I am obsessed with them. They are so comfortable and they make any simple shirt look cute and flirty without trying too hard. (No, I don’t make my bed.. so sue me 😉 haha)

Zara

My outfit from Friday.

Dress- Zara. Blazer- Forever 21. Boots- H&M.

I bought this dress at Zara last spring when my friends came to visit me in Sweden. I absolutely love it! It is so fun.

I can’t wait to go shopping at all of my favorite stores in Stockholm- H&M, Zara, Topshop, and Gina Tricot!!!

Glitz and Glam

After all those shiny-sequined outfits at the AMA’s last night, I was pumped to go to the mall for some fun. I didn’t end up buying anything but I tried on some new outfits and got my make up done by Sephora. I don’t wear that much make up on an every day basis but I wanted something new for when I get all dolled up for an evening on the town.

Do you like my party make up?

I do. It’s hard to get used to wearing make up since I don’t usually wear this much but for a night out, it’s perfect.

I also tried on some clothes at Express. A black mini skirt and a silver top.

Perfect for a holiday party. I think I could find a better shirt though, I didn’t like this one too much.

The infamous boyfriend jeans from Gap. Hans loves baggy jeans on a girl. He says it makes her look sexy and care-free.

I might have to give them a try just because they were so freaking comfortable.

What do you think about the above finds?

Italian white bean & spinach soup

I have had to cut back on the regular spending this month since I purchased Marie-Anne the macbook (switching from a PC to a mac was one of the best decisions I ever made). The simplest way to do that was to eat cheap. Hans and I loved to cook elaborate meals when we were in Charlotte but when I am in Oklahoma, I don’t need to do that.

In the beginning, I ate a lot of sandwiches, wraps and cereal which is all well and good until eating the same thing every day makes you repulsed of the fact of peanut butter and jelly together. (I mean really? I love PB&J’s!!) So, I thought I would be thrifty and cook up a huge pot of homemade soup on a cold late fall evening.

Italian white bean & spinach soup *adapted from this recipe.

1 package of white mushrooms
2 cups boiling water
1 med yellow onion
1 package spinach
1 16 oz can of white beans, rinsed and drained
1 package chicken sausage (I used Archer Farm’s Spinach and Feta Chicken Sausage)
1 14 oz can vegetable broth
garlic powder, parsley, salt and pepper to taste

Combine mushrooms with 2 cups of boiling water. Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes.

Drain mushrooms and reserve the liquid.

Heat some butter in a large nonstick skillet over med-high. Sauté chopped onion and mushrooms for about 5 minutes. Add chicken sausage to the pan. (I had thoroughly cooked them in the pan before making this)

Add the reserved mushroom liquid, spinach, white beans and vegetable broth.

Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes.

Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and parsley to taste. And serve with a delicious slice of grilled cheese- Haleigh style (a slice of gouda and cloudberry jam.)

Warm+Satisfying on a cozy, Sunday night. The funny part about this is that Hans got to watch my Food Network show the whole time. We were talking on skype while I was preparing the soup. It felt like he was in the kitchen with me- kind of.

Work went by fast for a Monday. I was shocked because some of the students in Oklahoma do not know how to dress in cold weather. I saw some kids with a t-shirt and shorts on!! The high was 45 degrees today. Insane. It was cold enough to bring out my winter coat this morning.

Love it! A close up of my outfit.

I had to chop off my head. You couldn’t see the detail of the outfit from far away, it looked like a big blob of winter clothes.

Do you have any cold weather traditions? My dad started up his fire for the first time this season, it was so nice to lay there by the warmth all evening.
